Gary D. Joiner - Founder
A Unique Perspective of Mapping
A company reflects the integrity and expertise of its founder. Gary
D. Joiner founded the firm as an outgrowth of his work as a petroleum
landman. Cartography was not a new interest for Gary. He holds a
bachelor's degree with majors in both history and geography as well
as a master's degree in history with an emphasis on military history.
His earliest interest in cartography came while a student at Louisiana
Tech University where he created maps for historical publications.
Today Gary has become a recognized expert in mapping matters. He
is frequently called on by governmental agencies, including the
United States Census Bureau, to resolve mapping problems. In addition,
he has delivered expert witness testimony in state, U.S. district,
and federal courts. Among his subjects are reapportionment, demographics,
environmental, accident reconstruction, crime scene, historical
and related mapping issues.
In addition to managing Precision Cartographics, Gary is a member
of the faculty at Louisiana State University in Shreveport where
he teaches history and trains students in GIS techniques.
